Welcome

Sheffield Movie Makers is a group of enthusiastic amateur film makers. Aimed mainly at camcorder users, we welcome anyone, from beginner to advanced, who wants to improve their film making skills.

Have you got a camcorder you hardly ever use, because it seems too complicated? Have you filmed holidays or family events, but been disappointed at the results? Got lots of tapes you don't know how to edit? OK, help is at hand!

These are the steps to making a good, interesting video:

  1. Learn how to hold the camera steady. Zooms, pans and other movements should be planned in advance. Don't just wave the camera about at random - your audience will get a headache.
  2. Find out how to edit your video. At first, this just means cutting out the rubbish. Then you can move on to trimming and arranging your shots to tell a story. If you have a computer, there are some good editing programs like Pinnacle Studio and Adobe Premiere.
  3. To give your film a professional finish, add some titles, effects, music and a commentary.

If you join the group, we can help with technical and equipment queries and advise you on making better movies. Explore this site to find out more about us.
