MILLENNIUM FILM SHOW |
In 2000 we successfully applied for a grant from the "Awards for All" scheme for lottery funding. The aim was to give a film show in Sheffield's Showroom Cinema, the largest independent cinema in the UK. On 15th March we invited the folks of Sheffield to a programme of 11 films with a Sheffield theme. There was a good attendance and reactions were very favourable. We also got some good publicity in the Sheffield Star and on Radio Sheffield, both of which carried interviews with Ray Myers, the club treasurer. In all, a rousing finale to our 50th anniversary and millennium celebrations. |

THE SHEFFIELD PROJECT |
Our second successful grant application was for financial help in making a film about Sheffield on the theme of 'Sheffield past and present.' We received funding of £3335 which enabled us to buy up-to-date projection and editing equipment for the project. We will show the film to local groups such as schools, old peoples' homes and community groups. This will get the club more involved with the community as well as improving our film making skills. The film will be made up of several self-contained 'chapters' of about 10 minutes each, and we can 'mix and match' these to make a programme suitable for a particular audience. Subjects include historic Sheffield, the city centre, its surrounding countryside, listed buildings, and civic affairs. Look out for future reports on the project.. |
